OFFICERS from the Makira Ulawa provincial vector-borne disease control programme on Tuesday, September 7th hold a consultation on Ulawa for the proposed establishment of its staff house on Ulawa Island.

Visiting Taheramo Area Health Center, Makira Ulawa provincial vector-borne disease control programme area manager, Mr. Trevor Punifimana, and his field officer Mr. Jackson Ragaia conducted the consultation meeting with influential community people in the North Ulawa ward on Tuesday 7th of September.

The field officer, Mr. Jackson Ragaia told participants that the purpose of the consultation meeting is to hold a dialogue with influential people in the communities to get feedback for formalizing documents for the proposed establishment of the programme’s staff houses at all Area health Centers in the Makira Ulawa province.

“The main purpose of coming over to hold this important dialogue with you is to get your consent and views for the proposed establishment of a Vector-borne disease control programme residence here at Taheramo for Ulawa Island”, Mr. Ragaia says.

The programme’s area manager, Trevor Punifimana highlights the importance of establishing a staff house for the vector-borne disease control program saying that it is a requirement under the role delineation policy for all area health centers to must have a staff house in place for monitoring and carrying out of the vector-borne disease control programs.

“As was stated in the Role Delineation Policy (RDP) of the Ministry of Health and Medical Services, all Area health centers are to have a staff house built to provide accommodation for the vector-borne disease control programme staff”, Mr. Punifimana says.

“We have already completed consultations on the Area health centers in Makira and we have already completed the paperwork for those completed”, he added.

He also told participants that the project will be fully funded under the Global fund who is a key player in the vector-borne disease control programme in the Solomon Islands.

He added that once completing this consultation, he will then finalize a report and submit it to responsible authorities.

The meeting ends well with participants supporting the proposed development which will benefit the island of Ulawa and its people.
