The North Guadalcanal Constituency (NGC) office recently supported Tetere, Okea and Ngalibiu (T.O.N.) Cooperative Society in the constituency with an investment of $100,000 in Constituency Development Funds (CDF), a move to strengthen local economic development.
The acronym T.O.N. represents Tetere, Okea and Ngalibiu communities. It is a newly formed Cooperative Society, representing workers from Tetere, Okea and Ngalibiu.
“This initiative is part of the broader strategy to leverage the constituency 12 designated economic zones and transition them into vibrant cooperative societies,” Member of Parliament Honourable for NGC Hon. Dr. Paul Bosowai said.
He said, “the T.O.N. Cooperative Society has garnered recognition for its members’ significant contributions to the National economy with workers at GPPOL, a key enterprise in the region, have contributed nearly 90 million Solomon Islands dollars annually through Goods and Services Tax (GST), underscoring their vital role in the country’s national economy.
“Acknowledging their efforts, the constituency office has pledged to support T.O.N. on an annual basis using the “Public Private Partnership” with budget allocation and commitment of SBD$100,000 to bolster the cooperative’s activities and growth.
“This initiative aligns with the government’s vision of achieving self-reliance in funding economic development through the use of Constituency Development Funds (CDF).
“The goal is to eventually see all 12 economic zones transition into cooperative societies, fostering sustainable and community-driven economic development.
NGC is scheduled to launch its 12 economic zones next month (June).
Saluting the efforts of T.O.N., local community leaders appreciate the idea of collectively working together to realize community change and shared economic prosperity.
As North Guadalcanal Constituency gears towards an economic self-sufficient future, the support for T.O.N. marks a significant step in empowering local communities and promoting economic resilience across the Constituency.
NGC office under the leadership of Hon. Dr Bosowai while taking initiatives to promoting Self Resilient Economic development within his constituency, encourages all Constituents to invest in economic and social development through agriculture and education.
“North Guadalcanal Constituency has shown since 1964 its potential in National Economic contributions and growth.
