THE National Referral Hospital (NRH) remains grateful for the overwhelming willingness of many private sector firms to come forward and continue supporting the development initiatives of the hospital support it continues to receive from private sector firms.

The NRH this week was able to officially open its new 30-bed capacity, special care nursery building project supported by Lee Kwok Kuen and company.

Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the National Referral Hospital, Dr. George Malefoasi, NRH Heads of Departments (HODs) received the building from representatives of Lee Kwok Kuen and Company and Solomon Islands Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SICCI) who also attended the official handing over and opening of the building.

In his remarks, Dr. George Malefoasi thanked Lee Kwok Kuen and Company for their continuous demonstration of kind heart towards the hospital.

“This is not the first time we have received such a support from this company and for this particular support may I, on behalf of the hospital’s Senior Executive, say thank you indeed to you, Jason and Family for your kind heart to willingly support the completion of our special care nursery project at NRH’,

‘Work on this building had started in 2017 unfortunately due to some challenges encountered, work was stalled. Nevertheless, today demonstrates the power and outcome of caring hearts and partnerships across sectors.

‘This special care nursery means more newborn babies needing special care can be accommodated at the hospital. Currently, 18 beds are in the building and we will work to place more beds to reach its full capacity soon, said Dr. Malefoasi.

The CEO also thanked the Solomon Islands Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SICCI) for the donations of furniture for the new Special Care Nursery facility.

Pediatric and Special Care Nursery HOD, Dr. Titus Nasi thanked the Lee Kwok Kuen and Company for taking the initiative to help complete the project. “They have not only taken over the project but added extra space to the building,” acknowledged, Dr. Nasi.

He made an assurance to Lee Kwok Kuen that they will look after the building.

“Certainly, everyone will enjoy the new building while caring for the little ones,” said. Dr. Nasi.

Solomon Sheet Steel Construction Manager, Neil Buendia in handing over the building said that Lee Kwok Kuen’s Board and Management are very pleased to once again support NRH as it will benefit many of our newborn babies who will require special care including postnatal mothers, thereby contributing to health and lives of our future generation.

Special Care Nursery is purposely to care for premature babies, those who are born with low birth weight or need care for neonatal health issues.
