PRIME Minister honorable Jeremiah Manele and delegation are now in Beijing, the capital of People’s Republic of China (PRC) after a successful completion of visit to the Province of Fujian.
Yesterday- 11th July 2024- the Prime Minister will meet Premier Li Qiang at the Great Hall during which the Prime Minister, through bilateral talks, will raise a number of areas of common interests.
Prior to that, the visit to Fujian Province has achieved a number of outcomes one of which is the formalization of the sister relationship between Fujian Province and Western Province.
According to Prime Minister, the formalization of the sister relationship is one of the key deliverables of his state visit to China.
Further to that, the Fujian Agriculture and Forestry University (FAFU) has announced the offering of five (5) scholarships a year for Solomon Islands students wishing to pursue masters and doctorate degrees.
Other areas of common interests that Fujian Province and the government wish to pursue include culture and tourism, deepening of the policing program, exploring the fisheries sector and expanding the people to people relations.
The Prime Minister expressed that such areas of common interests can be pursued through the sub- states relationship and supported by the national government.
At Fujian, the Prime Minister also has the opportunity to express his profound appreciation and commendation for the work of the Chinese Liaison Team to improve and maintain the capabilities of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF).
To the China- Pacific Island Countries Police Training Center executive and senior officials of Fujian Provincial Government, PM Manele specifically praised CLT’s assistance in ensuring the peaceful running of the successful 2023 Pacific Games in November last year and also the recent joint National General Elections.
Prime Minister is impressed with the professionalism displayed by the Center and express the government’s wish for the policing program between Solomon Islands and China to continue and deepen into the future.
Prime Minister and delegation are now in Beijing, and PM Manele will meet with Premier Li Qiang at the Great Hall. Prior to the bilateral meeting, a formal welcoming ceremony will take place to honor our Prime Minister as the chief guest of PRC.
A number of frameworks and Memorandum of Understandings will be signed after the bilateral meeting with Premier Li Qiang. These will pave the way for closer cooperation and deepening of ties between the countries- Solomon Islands and People’s Republic of China (PRC).
Later today, the Prime Minister will also participate in the laying of wreath at the Monument to the People’s Heroes at the Tian’anmen Square.
Brief visits will be made to the Solomon Islands Embassy in Beijing and after that, visits will be made to China Harbor and Huawei Beijing Research Institute respectively.
