SOLOMON Islands is now facing the biggest challenge with regards to its COVID-19 situation now that the country is having community transmission of the virus Honiara and Ontong Java.

Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare in his special nationwide address yesterday has confirmed that only 20% of the total targeted population is fully vaccinated.

Most of the people in Honiara have decided not to take the vaccination, despite continued requests over the last 18 months to be vaccinated.

“All of you that have not been vaccinated are now the most vulnerable to contract COVID-19.

“Please be very careful and observe COVID-19 safe practices.

“I renew my call for all adults in Honiara and all children between 12 years old and 18 years old. To now get vaccinated as soon as possible. You cannot continue to delay.

“The Minister of Health will advise you on the locations for vaccination, in addition to the Solomon Ports Authority location, so that many of you can get vaccinated.

“I pray that the community transmission can be contained and that we will overcome it. Be prepared to see many people get sick, some getting very sick, and some may even lose their lives.

Yesterday, after PM Sogavare announced the community transmission of the virus, and urges people to get vaccinated, people queued vaccination stations – some getting their final jab others rushing to get their first dose.
