THE Papua New Guinea High Commission office in Honiara will release an official statement later this week after completing inquiries into the alleged beating and abduction of two locals at Henderson, East of Honiara by PNG Soldiers.

When queried by Sunday Isles, the PNG High Comm Office stated they are not in a better position to make a response at the moment as they are conducting investigations into the incident.

Most likely a statement will be made on Friday according to information gathered.

The Royal Solomon Islands Police Force in response to queries by Sunday Isles have also stated that it is in the early stage to make a detailed response regarding the alleged incident.

“However, the RSIPF has conducted an inquiry into the allegations and will update us when we have more information,” an RSIPF statement said when queried.

It is alleged that a group of PNG force members who were partying at a private area in Henderson, unlawfully treated and apprehended two local Solomon Islanders over the weekend after an argument broke out about the rowdy partying of the soldiers which causes unnecessary nuisance.

One of the locals from South Malaita who decided to post about the matter on social media was alleged to have been abducted along with another local from Temotu by the said PNG Force members after illegally entering the locals’ property.

The family of the ‘kidnapped victims’ as described were worried and therefore searched for their relatives who they later found at the Henderson Police Station.

Members of the public are questioning the mandated roles of regional forces currently in the country to assist the RSIPF to maintain law and order, which does not include entering homes of ordinary Solomon Islands citizens and kidnapping them or threatening them.
