THE Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands Community Association Coordinating Committee of the Independence Anniversary Celebration has confirmed for their upcoming country’s 49th Independence Anniversary celebrations to be held from the 15th to 16th of September 2024.

The PNG High Commission has cancelled its official independence reception for this year in anticipation of hosting the 50th Silver Jubilee Anniversary Celebrations of the Independent State of Papua New Guinea next year, 2025, and has partnered with the PNG community in organizing the event to take place at the Honiara Golf Club in east Honiara.

There will be cultural performances, touch rugby games, and stalls onsite selling PNG products, artifacts, food and beverages, and other exotic products for souvenirs, as well as live band performances.

The program will start off with welcome remarks by Vice Chairman Mr. Jorddy Tununto and the Independence message to be delivered by His Excellency Moses Kaul, High Commissioner, which is intended to

Reflect on the current state of affairs of the Independent State of Papua New Guinea. Also, to captivate PNG citizens on the essence of nationality and nation-building.

The gates will be open at 11 a.m. for the public and followed until the program closes at 6 p.m. in the evening.

And on Monday, 16th September, a flag-raising ceremony will be held at the Papua New Guinea High Commissions Chancery in Town Ground and will be concluded with light refreshments for those who have participated.

Meanwhile, everyone is encouraged to come in PNG-style outfits with traditional PNG colors and sports gear for those wishing to take part in sports.

The entertainment program will feature live band performances by POV Band and PNG Provincial and Cultural Dancing Groups. 

PNG families, relatives, and friends, including the media representatives in Honiara, to be part of the program.
