THE newly re-elected MPA for Duidui Ward, Hon. John Stewart, is now the Minister for Finance and Treasury.

Minister John Stewart took his oath in the Guadalcanal Provincial Assembly Chamber at 10:00 am this morning in a brief ceremony.

The brief ceremony was administered by the Hon. Speaker Peter Aoraunisaka, Clerk to the Assembly Mr. Edward Juvia, Deputy Provincial Secretary Mr. Joseph Sua, and the Principal Legal Officer, Mr. Nasi Kwaimani.

The reshuffle was necessitated by the health issues of former Minister for Women, Youths & Sports, Jerome Rava.

Hon. Jimmy Saea, previously serving as Finance Minister, has stepped into Rava’s role, bringing his expertise to the Ministry for Women, Youths & Sports.

Minister John Stewart is tasked with improving the Finance and Treasury Division of the Province.

Speaking to GP Media, the new Minister thanked his predecessor, Minister Jimmy Saea, for his commitments since taking office earlier this year and thanked Premier Willie Atu and his Executive for the confidence entrusted to him.

Minister John Stewart also acknowledged the outgoing Sade-led government for the major reforms in the past four years despite the COVID-19 global pandemic, the November Riot in 2021, and the debt-ridden status of the province.

He noted that the challenges faced are partly due to structural reforms, which will take time to change. He vowed to serve Guadalcanal Province with dignity and respect in the next four years.

The ‘Guadalcanal Government for Good Governance’ will unveil its “Strategy Policy 2024 – 2028” next week during the 2nd Appointed Day, outlining their vision for Guadalcanal’s future. The Strategic Policy is envisaged to improve the productive and corporate sectors to improve economic growth in Guadalcanal.
