Australia’s High Commissioner to Solomon Islands, His Excellency Rod Hilton, has delivered an official farewell message as he prepares to leave the country. In his official statement, he spoke with deep emotion about his time in Solomon Islands and the people who made it special.
“As I prepare to leave Solomon Islands, I want to express my deepest gratitude to the people of this beautiful country. Serving as Australia’s High Commissioner has been one of the greatest honours of my life,” he said.

Mr Hilton shared that he felt welcomed everywhere he went. “From the vibrant streets of Honiara to the most remote villages, I’ve experienced the warmth, generosity, and resilience that make Solomon Islands so special,” he said. He added that his years in the country had been “a journey of friendship, learning, and shared purpose.”
Looking back on the work done together, he highlighted progress in health, education, infrastructure, jobs, and community projects across all provinces. He also spoke proudly about the strong security cooperation between the two nations. “We’ve stood side by side in times of challenge and celebrated successes—from the Pacific Games, national elections and Pacific Islands Forum,” he said. “But beyond projects and programs, what matters most are the relationships, trust, and respect we’ve built.”

He thanked the Government, community leaders, partners and friends for their support. He also expressed appreciation for his team at the High Commission. “I am proud of all we’ve achieved together,” he said.
In a warm message to everyone in Solomon Islands, Mr Hilton said, “Mi talem bigfala tagio for welkamim mi, for teachim mi, an for waka tugeda long disfala rod.”

He described Australia as “the numbawan partner, numbawan friend and numbawan family for Solomon Islands,” promising that Australia would “always be here” as a reliable partner.
