The RSIPF SWAT team marches in for the demonstration.

The Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Unit of the Royal Solomon Island Police Force (RSIPF) is ready to respond swiftly and effectively to any situation that may arise before, during, or after the Pacific Island Forum Leaders Meeting next week.

RSIPF Deputy Commissioner (DC) National Security and Operation Support (NSOS) highlighted last Friday, 29 August 2025, in his welcome remark by saying that today marks an important milestone for the RSIPF as we come together to witness the capabilities and professionalism of the RSIPF SWAT unit of our police force.

DC Vaevaso said this demonstration is not merely a display of tactical skills; it is a clear reflection of RSIPF’s continued commitment to strengthening the safety and security of our beloved nation, the Solomon Islands, from internal and external threats, as well as our part in contributing to broader peace and stability across our region and globally.

DC NSOS Mr. Vaevaso said as we look ahead for the upcoming PIF Meeting, an event of regional importance, it becomes increasingly critical that our leaders, stakeholders, and the general public have full confidence in the ability of RSIPF to provide a secure and stable environment for this event and the overall security of Solomon Islands.

“This capability demonstration symbolizes not only their dedication but also indicates the strategic steps that RSIPF has taken to ensure operational readiness, professionalism, and discipline in fulfilling our national security responsibility,” said Vaevaso.

Mr. Vaevaso said the RSIPF wishes to extend its heartfelt appreciation to the government and the people of the People’s Republic of China for their continued and generous support and assistance. The strong partnership we have forged has played a vital role in building the capacity of our police force. In particular, we are grateful for the specialized training programs provided to our SWAT personnel. These efforts have significantly contributed to the growth and professionalism we are proud to display here today.

“We want to sincerely thank our CPLT partners for the provision of essential equipment that will be handed over this morning. This modern and high-quality gear will greatly enhance the operational capabilities of the RSIPF—not only in managing high-risk incidents, but also in delivering security outcomes that are aligned with the Solomon Islands National Security Strategy, international standards, and regional expectations. “This equipment is an investment not just in our force, but in the future safety and resilience of the Solomon Islands,” said DC NSOS Mr. Vaevaso.

Chinese Ambassador to Solomon Islands His Excellency (H.E.) Cai Weiming, in his remarks during the handover and SWAT demonstration at Rove, said, “I am happy to attend this SWAT capability demonstration and handover ceremony of police equipment worth around 2 million SBD to the RSIPF.

Ambassador Cai Weiming said these supplies are the latest testament of the close practical police and security cooperation between our two countries aiming to enhance law enforcement capabilities of the RSIPF and improve their working condition, especially in preparation for the upcoming PIFL meeting that will be held in Honiara.

“Police and security corporations are important components of a comprehensive strategic partnership between Solomon Islands (SI) and China. It is designed according to the requests and needs of SI, aiming to enhance the capability and performance of RSIPF,” said Ambassador Weiming.

H.E. Weiming said this will help RSIPF in order to better carry out their duties, better safeguard social security, and better protect the people of SI. In the past few years two sides have accrued extensive cooperation in this field and achieved fruitful results.
