SOLOMON Islands/Papua New Guinea Community in Honiara have come out today in hundreds to celebrate the PNG’s 47th Independence Anniversary in style with music, food, games, and traditional entertainment at the SMI compound, Town Ground.
Young children and youths dressed in their best colorful Papua New Guinea (PNG) traditional outfits, flowered headpieces, and traditional attires honored the 47th Independence Day Anniversary in style.


This is the most anticipated day on the Papua New Guinean calendar, they turned four decades old in 2015 and are now 47 years old this year, 2022. Papua New Guinea became an Independent State from Australia, on 16 September 1975.
While the PNG military and police contingents in the country also joined in with the celebrations as an opportunity not to be missed.


Papua New Guinea’s High Commissioner to Solomon Islands H.E Moses Kaul thanked the PNG/Solomon Islands Community and friends in Honiara for joining the auspicious occasion of celebrating the 47th Independence Anniversary of PNG.
Whilst reflecting on PNG since its independence in 1975, H.E Moses Kaul described the celebration of PNG to mark the 47 years of Independence in Honiara as a grand occasion to reflect on national building and to navigate the way forward into the future.
“PNG enjoys a close and harmonious bilateral relationship with the Solomon Islands. There is considerable evidence of growth and progress and growth in mutually beneficial areas of cooperation between our two friendly countries including trade, investment, technical, security, and contacts between our two peoples.


“As Melanesians, both our countries work closely on issues and agendas of common interests at the regional as well as the national for a going forward.
“At this juncture, May I extend on behalf of the Government and people of PNG our deepest gratitude for you all to come and join us in celebrating our 47th independence anniversary. God Bless Papua New Guinea,” H.E Moses Kaul said.
