The Makira-Ulawa Provincial Assembly will meet on December 9 for what many people see as a turning point for the Provincial Premier Stanley Siapu-led PACRA government. Members will debate a motion of no confidence that has now cleared all checks.

Assembly Clerk Clement Reginald Rohorua said his office received the notice on Tuesday, 25 November. He confirmed the document met every rule under Standing Order 108, which guides how motions of no confidence must be prepared and submitted. “We checked the notice, and it fully complied with the Standing Orders,” he said.

The motion was filed by Hon. Douglas Kuper, the MPA for East Arosi Ward. His notice lists three concerns: the gross misuse or neglect of powers, the misappropriation of public funds, and actions that he says have brought the Office of the Speaker into disrepute.

Mr. Rohorua explained that under Standing Order 107, the notice became active on 26 November and will expire on December 4. This creates a tight timeline for the Assembly to table and debate the motion. “With all procedural checks satisfied and timelines confirmed, the motion will be listed for the Assembly sitting scheduled for the 9th of December,” he said.

Across Makira-Ulawa Province, people are watching how Assembly members will respond. Many believe the debate could mark a moment for the leadership and direction of the Siapu government.
