PREPARATIONS for the Duidui Ward election is progressing well, according to the Solomon Islands Electoral Office (SIEO).
In a statement, Chief Electoral Officer Jasper Highwood Anisi said six people have been nominated and confirmed their candidacy after nominations were closed on 28th May.
“In accordance with the election procedures, the Returning Officer published the Ballot Paper Draw Notice, successfully conducted the ballot paper draw thereafter and confirmed candidate standings on the ballot paper which has been finalized for printing,” Mr Anisi said.
Election for Duidui Ward of South Guadalcanal Constituency was postponed and rescheduled to be held on 10 July 2024.
The election was postponed from the April 17th 2024 Joint Election, in accordance with the Electoral Law, due to the death of a candidate.
Training of polling and counting officers will be some of the subsequent activities to occur as preparations progress.
The SIEO CEO emphasized that electoral rules and regulations remain therefore advised all candidates and supporters to observe.
The Solomon Islands Electoral Commission (SIEC) is an independent Constitutional Electoral Management Body that is responsible for voter registration and the conduct of elections at the Parliamentary, Provincial Assemblies, and Honiara City Council levels.
