For this week, SSS construction group did a tremendous job by sealing the Vara strip (Mataniko clinic towards Honiara High School) and is expected to progress towards Tuvaruhu Road.

THE specific and routine maintenance of sealed roads in Central Honiara is steadily advancing, despite the challenges posed by the recent monsoon season.

The sealed roads in Central Honiara have been designated into two distinct lots for maintenance. Lot 1, managed by SSS Construction, includes upgrades to several key roadways, namely West Kola Road, Koloale Road, China Town Road, Chung Wah Road, Vara Creek Road, and Tuvaruhu Road.

SSS construction group is currently working on Vara strip (Mataniko clinic towards Honiara High School) and is expected to progress towards Tuvaruhu Road.

Utilising the chip seal method, SSS Construction employs a cost-effective technique that layer’s bitumen and crushed stone aggregates, resulting in a robust, weather-resistant surface that enhances road safety for the community.

Lot 2 encompasses Skyline Road, Vavaya Ridge Road, Mbokonavera 4 Loop Road, Mbokonavera Heights Road, and Kaibia Heights Road. Ropiko Enterprise Construction has been awarded the contract for this lot, and maintenance activities are set to commence soon.

For unsealed roads, two lots have been identified for routine maintenance work, pending the Central Tender Board’s decision on contractor awards.

Lot 1 includes SICA, New Georgia, R920, Koloale 2, Koloale School, MoFT Housing 1-2, Patterson Lane, Stuverburg, Palmer Lane, R373, West Kola, Papabatu, and Husty Road.

Lot 2 encompasses Eagle Street, Tuva Crescent, R478, Tuvaruhu Road, R532, R626, R715, Vatulwa Road, R725, Vara Creek, Vara Crescent, R479, R480, and Chipu Chao.

In addition, two more lots of unsealed roads for Central Honiara will be established once scoping is completed by the civil team.

Additionally, Lekaboli Street—the route from the Chiefs House at Vavaya Ridge to the ITA Hardware shop—is expected to undergo upgrades as well under Central Honiara. The upgrade is crucial for providing an alternate route to alleviate traffic congestion in Honiara’s Central Business District, particularly as the Land and Maritime Connectivity Project prepares to expand the main highway from Townground to Central Market in the coming months.

MID appreciates the Central Honiara community’s patience as we work to improve our road infrastructure for the benefit of all road users.

Updates will be provided by the MID Communications and Public Relations Unit as maintenance progresses.
