HONIARA, Solomon Islands – Ambassador Yastishock departs post today, January 16, after two years serving as U.S. Ambassador to Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands, and Vanuatu. P. Daniel O’Hara will continue to lead U.S. Embassy Honiara as Chargé d’Affaires, a.i.
“I am proud of the expansion of the U.S.-Solomon Islands relationship that has been achieved.” said Ambassador Yastishock. “This includes a deepened connection between our governments, as well as significantly increased people-to-people ties.”
Under Ambassador Yastishock’s leadership, the Ministry of Police, National Security and Correctional Services and the U.S. Department of War signed a memorandum of agreement for
Humanitarian Mine Assistance (HMA) – honoring our commitment to the “Hapi Isles” under the America First framework to ensure the remnants of the past no longer threaten the families of today, allowing the Solomon Islands to stand strong and safe. In addition, strengthened health and disaster preparedness efforts through various U.S. Department of War efforts bolstered the bilateral relationship. The Millennium Challenge Corporation-Solomon Islands Threshold Program continues to boost Solomon Islands’ economic growth through reforms and investments in tourism and forestry, focusing on sustainable land use, community benefits, and alternatives to logging. The Ambassador also presided over expanded academic and professional exchanges, including the Community Solutions Program, International Visitor Leadership Program, Fulbright, Professional Fellows, Young Pacific Leaders, and Youth Ambassadors as well as expanded cooperation with the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and Solomon Islands National Museum.
Together, the United States and Solomon Islands will continue to build a strong foundation for partnership that supports a safer, stronger, and more prosperous future.
