Opposition Leader Mathew Wale and some members of his bench have demonstrated disregard for parliament and further demonstrated incompetence to lead the country by walking out of the Parliament Chamber before a vote to extend the current State of Public Emergency was made.
Government unanimously passed the bill to extend the SOPE to maintain some covid-19 restrictions and procedures as the country continues to manage covid-19 community transmission.
A statement from the Office of the Prime Minister today said Wale and some of his members’ attitude toward Parliament is disrespectful and only shows his incompetence to lead the country.
“The people of this country should by now know what Wale and his team have in place for the country in terms of leadership. His behaviour is nothing sort of an ignorant leader that has nothing to offer. He has demonstrated defeat even before the vote was made,” the statement said.
At one stage, Wale was disqualified by a former speaker from entering Parliament for disregarding standing orders and was warned on many previous occasions to respect parliamentary rules and procedures.
The PMO statement said Wale obviously is not interested in supporting efforts to effectively manage covid19 transmission in the country since the bill to extend the SOPE is necessary to facilitate our national response plan in the interest of public well-being and economic livelihoods.
