FINABOLA village in West Kwaio, Malaita province has put in place a ‘localized lockdown’ aimed at preventing their community against spread of COVID-19.

The village lockdown started on Tuesday 1st February and it’s ending will depend entirely on the current status of the community transmission of COVID-19 in Auki, Malaita province.

According to village elder, Kennedy Rifigao, if the situation worsen, then the village people will move further in the bush to relocate their houses there.

He confirmed that at the moment, some of their people are beginning to move their belongings to an inland area to escape the onslaught of COVID-19.

Rifigao explained that a localize lockdown means – it was not regulated by the National Government but it is a step taken for the safety of people in the community against COVID-19 outbreak in the country.

The village elder reminded fellow villagers to respect the COVID-19 precautionary measures and follow every safety measures imposed by the Ministry of health, that is social distancing, wearing of facemask, etc…

“Everyone have their responsibilities to care for each other during this COVID period. Everyone must follow those prevention measures and try to remain calm in your homes,” Rifigao urged.

He encouraged everybody to work together in this fight against COVID19.
