COMMUNITY Access and Urban Service Enhancement (CAUSE) Project Officially handed over four completed infrastructure projects to Western Provincial Government this week at Gizo, Noro and Munda.

The infrastructures are Markets for Noro and Munda, a Jetty and Satellite market at Gizo Town.

Honiara city council (HCC) Clerk Justus Denni speaking at the official hand over of the Jetty in Gizo highlighted HCC’s role as an implementing agency of CAUSE Project component one, which deals with building and improving infrastructures, such as Markets, Jacob Ladder, Footpath and Jetty.

“I’m very pleased as the implementing agency, that is responsible to work with the CAUSE Project team, I’m very happy to see that the been completed and done,” He said.

“Two more jetties will be built at the market on both ends, and there are more sub-projects. With this jetty I believe with help a lot of market vendors, to unload your produce when you come for the market and load to go back. It provides safe access for you, so that is a good service for people here.”

“And the new satellite market at Banana Valley, these markets gives opportunity and enable you to sell your produce, earn income to support your families and community.” Denni said.

“Please respect the facilities and the rules, if we look after them, and respect them then we will benefit from them for a long time.”

Meanwhile World bank representative Ms Nadia Mahmood, commended the level of determination that Gizo CAUSE team has shown. she said, Gizo team is a very innovative group, and that the flow of work in Gizo is on “next level.”

She goes on reminding project officers, stake holders and Gizo community on the social side of the project, one of which is the balance of employment opportunities, for marginalized ones, unemployed women and youths. She said 50 percent of workers must be the needy women and other 50 percent for unemployed youths.

CAUSE Project communication officer Lawrence Nodua stated that, “there will be two more additional Jetties at the Market comes 2022.

Funding of the Project comes from the World Bank.”


“The CAUSE Project aims to improve basic infrastructure and services for vulnerable, urban population in the country, with skills training, short-term job opportunities and income generation being prioritized to help develop self-sustaining communities.”

Other Donors and partners in the western province are, NZ aid, AusAid, Canadian Aid, UN Women Market for Change Project, National Fisheries Development and Solomon Ports.
