MINISTER of National Planning and Development Coordination Hon. Rexson Ramofafia, held a fruitful meeting with U.S. Ambassador Anne Marie Yastishock yesterday (29/10/24) to reinforce the enduring partnership between the Solomon Islands and the United States.
The discussion highlighted U.S. development assistance, which has provided approximately SBD 7.5 million from 2016 to 2021, benefiting key sectors including environment and disaster risk management.
Minister Ramofafia acknowledged the friendship and development assistance to Solomon Islands. He also expressed gratitude for the ongoing support through the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) Threshold Programme that is supporting Solomon Islands with active projects in forestry and tourism.
Ramofafia stressed the Solomon Islands’ commitment to exploring a Compact Agreement with MCC to deepen mutual cooperation.
A collaborative, multi-year development framework to ensure alignment with national priorities and streamline efforts.
Additionally, he reiterated the call for U.S. support in refurbishing the National Parliament building and addressing World War II remnants, including unexploded ordnance (UXO) and environmental hazards from wreckage sites.
This meeting emphasizes a shared commitment to sustainable development and stronger bilateral ties between the Solomon Islands and the United States of America.
