THE weeklong celebrations to mark Selwyn College’s 50th year of Golden Jubilee this year 2021 have begun on Saturday 25 September at the college compound at Maravovo, North West Guadalcanal.

Arch-Bishop of the Anglican Church of Melanesia, the most RT Rev Leonard Dawea, GG Sir, David Vunagi, and Education Minister, Mrs. Lanelle Tanagada.

With the theme, “Celebrating the Past, Building our future,” Old and New students, staff, families, and friends of Selwyn College match into Honiara city to Lawson Tama stadium where the official program and speeches were held.

There is a lot of excitement and joy as the four divisions under SOSSA namely MASI (white), KIRIO (blue), TEHULA (green), and NOABU (yellow) paraded around the Lawson Tama field before the start of the speeches presentations.

The First speaker to address the jubilant crowd was the Chairman of the 50th Golden Jubilee celebrations Mr. Robert Iroga, a former SELCO student and also the owner and publisher of Solomon Business Magazine (SBM).

The Chairman’s speech was followed by an address by the Arch-Bishop of the Anglican Church of Melanesia, the most RT Rev Leonard Dawea, and then a speech by the Minister for Education and Human Resources Development (MEHRD), Hon. Lenelle Tanagada.

The guest of Honour, at yesterday’s event, was Governor-General, Sir, David Vunagi who is a former Principal of Selwyn College.

Sir Vunagi in his Keynote address, recalled some histories and memories at SELCO during the early years when he was in charge as a School Principal.
