Solomon Islands to Rejoin UN Peacekeeping Mission in South Sudan

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs & External Trade is pleased to announce that Solomon Islands will once again contribute to United Nations peacekeeping efforts through the deployment of Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) officers to South Sudan in mid-March.

The Permanent Mission of Solomon Islands to the United Nations has confirmed that eight RSIPF officers have been successfully selected for deployment to the United Nations Mission in South Sudan.

Prior to deployment, the officers completed pre-deployment training in Pinkenba, Australia, with support from the Australian Federal Police, and undertook all mandatory United Nations pre-deployment assessments.

The deployment follows close coordination between RSIPF; the Ministry of Foreign Affairs & External Trade; the Ministry of Police, National Security and Correctional Services; the Permanent Mission of Solomon Islands to the United Nations; and the United Nations Police Division.

In welcoming the news, the Permanent Mission of Solomon Islands to the United Nations expressed its appreciation to the United Nations Police for the opportunity to once again contribute to global peacekeeping efforts.

Solomon Islands previously deployed police officers to UN peacekeeping missions in 2016, 2017, and 2018.

Solomon Islands remains steadfast in its support for multilateral cooperation and values its partnership with the United Nations in promoting global peace and security.
