HUNDREDS of voters across nine constituencies in the Western Province have arrived in Gizo ahead of the polling day tomorrow.
On Wednesday, April 17th, polling stations will open at 7 a.m. and close at 4 p.m. Upon arrival, witnesses observed voters carrying their belongings and accompanied by their families, arriving safely in the provincial capital of Gizo this afternoon.
Boats from the surrounding islands have landed to pick up voters and transport them to their respective villages. Gizo has experienced a surge in voter arrivals, with the capital buzzing with election fever.
Hundreds of boats carrying passengers were seen on the water. Many youths in Gizo eagerly awaited along the wharf to witness these arrivals, as it was their first experience of such an event.
The ship Fair Glory arrived in Gizo amidst wet weather conditions, and passengers began unloading their belongings. In an interview, Western Province Electoral Manager Collin Potakana stated that a number of voters from Honiara have now safely arrived in Gizo ahead of the polling day tomorrow.
He reminds voters to be punctual when casting their ballot.
“I would like to remind all Western citizens that the polling stations will open at 7 a.m. and close at 4 p.m. I urge voters to be on time, as polling officials will be there to assist you,” said Potakana.
He expressed his gratitude to everyone for their good behavior upon their arrival in Gizo. Police officials have been deployed and are highly visible as they continue to carry out their duties.
The ship will travel through North Vella to reach its final destination, as a majority of voters from North Vella La Vella are also onboard the ship Fair Glory.
