Most of the people in Solomon Islands depend mostly in Agriculture, Fishing and Forestry as part of their livelihood.

It is also one of the main source of income for some families in our communities.

Paul Bernard is a Fisherman residing at Tin Redline Beach area in Tamboko, Northwest Guadalcanal Constituency and fishing is his daily job.

He told Isles Media that from Fishing, he gain a little income to support his family with basic goods.

He added that he also save up a little portion of income gain from fishing to buy for his children’s school fees.

90 percent of the total population in the country live in the rural areas, areas close to the sea same as Paul and fishing is part of their lives and one of the main source of nutrients.

With regards to big scale fishing, Solomon Islands really benefit from the fishing industry.

The industry provides work for local people and is also a big source of revenue for the government in terms of export and licences fees from foreign fishing boats who fish in SI waters.
