ELECTION Candidate Wilson Mamae is campaigning on a platform of promising change and empowerment for the West Honiara Constituency under the banner of the Solomon Islands Democratic Party (SIDP).
Mamae, a former Councillor of Ngossi Ward and Lord Mayor of the Honiara City Council (HCC), is set to contest the 2024 joint election on April 17 against two candidates (the former MP for West Honiara Constituency, Namson Tran, and a female candidate, Catherine Leta) vying for the parliamentary seat of West Honiara Constituency.
The candidate has made it his mission to bring about positive change in West Honiara under the policies of the ‘CARE’ Coalition, which stands for Coalition for Accountability Reform and Empowerment—a partnership between the Solomon Islands Democratic Party (SIDP) Matthew Wale and the Democratic Alliance Party (DAP).
He has promised to tackle issues such as poverty, education, unemployment, and healthcare access, all of which have been major concerns for residents, citing that the future of the Solomon Islands is now in the hands of the people.
“I believe that by empowering our community, we can create a better future for all of us,” Mamae said during a recent campaign event held at the White River School Hall. “I am committed to fighting for the rights of our people and making sure that their voices are heard.”
If elected, he plans to work closely with community leaders to implement policies that will benefit the entire community.
“I am humbled if given the opportunity to serve, to lead, and to make a difference in the lives of each of you; this election is not just about West Honiara itself but to redirect the Solomon Islands to a brighter future. Together, let’s usher in a new era of progress and prosperity for West Honiara and the Solomon Islands,” Mamae said. “The power is once again returning to you people to determine your representative in the National Parliament for the next four years.”
He urged the attendees to join him in a transformative journey towards a new, vibrant economy and reclaiming the Solomon Islands from foreign influence.
“For over 40 years of independence, we have witnessed our resources being exploited without meaningful returns to our people,” Maemae emphasized. “It’s time to end this era of exploitation and prioritize the well-being and prosperity of every individual in our community.”
Under the banner of the CARE Coalition, Mamae promised a new vision and renewed hope for the residents of West Honiara.
“Together, we dare to dream big and commit ourselves to turning these dreams into reality,” he declared.
The campaign theme, ‘We Care,’ encapsulates the essence of their mission. “It’s not just a slogan; it’s a commitment to prioritize the well-being and prosperity of every individual in our community,” Mamae explained, igniting a wave of applause from the audience.
In a significant show of support, Daniel Sudani announced his allegiance to the CARE Coalition, urging the people of Malaita in West Honiara to stand behind Mamae. “We Malaitans form a significant portion of the population in West Honiara. To secure our future, we must vote for Wilson Maemae, who will address our pressing issues,” Sudan declared.
The recent campaign launch was attended by prominent figures, including wing leader Mathew Wale, Dean Kuku, Wilson Mamae, and Daniel Sudani, further solidifying the coalition’s momentum as the election date approaches.
As the countdown to the election on April 17, 2024, begins, Wilson Maemae urges the people to make their choice count.
