HONIARA City Council will be start removing illegal markets around the City and taking actions on illegal activities at hotspots identified.

Deputy Mayor and Chairman for HCC Law Enforcement Division Robert Oge, made the call during the closing of the induction training for 20 HCC new recruits.

“I am grateful that you have undergone such training to prepare you as officers of HCC to discharge your duties and tasks that awaits.”

“I expect nothing more from you than your utmost dedication towards enforcing city ordinances, regulations and instructions that will be issued from time to time by the Executive and Management,” he said.

Deputy Mayor Oge shared the same sentiment expressed by the City Mayor that HCC Governance’s plan for 2023 is for Redirect, Reclaim and Reorganize Honiara City to make Honiara City a safe, clean and better place for residents and visitors.

“Under a resolution passed by the Executive, you are directly responsible to the office of the Mayor, who will be issuing instructions through your Head of Division on daily basis on matters of concern.”

“Subsequential change of name from Law Enforcement Officers to “Ordinance Enforcement Officers” has been passed by the Executive to ensure officers perform to mandated tasks identified.”

“With the Pacific Games coming up, as host city, we have a big responsibility to organize Honiara City and let’s bank on this opportunity to take back full control and make Honiara great again,” he added.

Oge further call on the public to be aware of the tasks that will be carried out by HCC and urged everyone for their cooperation.

Those with illegal betelnut stalls/huts are advised to dismantle to avoid further consequences as operations will be carried out soon.

Also those who entertain illegal activities on certain hotspots must be aware that operations will also be carried.
