THERE were smiles, handshakes, and heartfelt words exchanged last night at the Mendana Hotel as 50 new community projects were signed under the Solomon Islands Australia Community Partnership Programme.

The award night marked a significant milestone in the ongoing collaboration between the two nations, with SBD 11 million worth of projects officially approved for implementation. As the signing concluded, community leaders and project coordinators posed proudly for photos, their signed agreements in hand—a symbol of new beginnings and tangible progress, powered by international partnership and local action.

Speaking at the event, Prime Minister Honorable Jeremiah Manele expressed his deep appreciation to the Australian government for its continued support.

SI Prime Minister, Honorable Jeremiah Manele, delivered a speech at the SI AUS CPP Award Night, held at the Mendana hotel in Honiara.

“I am grateful that a number of constituencies and provinces will be signing agreements tonight,” PM Manele said. “I’m delighted with the 50 approved community projects.”

The newly approved projects span across eight provinces and 33 constituencies, reinforcing the programme’s commitment to reach every corner of the Solomon Islands. The types of community infrastructure include water tanks, school buildings, sanitation projects, health clinics, and solar lighting—projects that are expected to have a lasting impact on the lives of everyday Solomon Islanders.

“This programme has expanded fivefold since 2023,” PM Manele added. “It’s intended to help community groups improve their living standards through small-scale developments.”

The Solomon Islands Australia Development Partnership Plan 2024–2029 aims to fund 100 community projects each year. In 2024 alone, the programme will support initiatives totaling SBD 23.62 million.

Prime Minister Manele urged the project beneficiaries and coordinators to take full ownership of the developments.

“Please work closely with the Australian High Commission in executing your respective projects,” he said. “And more importantly, look after the completed projects to ensure they continue to serve the community well into the future.”

He also praised His Excellency Mr. Rod Hilton, Australian High Commissioner to the Solomon Islands, and his team for their dedication.

“I commend His Excellency Mr. Rod Hilton and his hardworking team for their continued effort in rolling out this important programme,” the Prime Minister said. “Together, we are improving the lives of Solomon Islanders.”
