THE Australian High Commissioner to the Solomon Islands, His Excellency Mr. Rod Hilton, has congratulated the first 50 community projects of 2025 funded under the Solomon Islands-Australia Community Partnerships.
The High Commissioner reaffirmed Australia’s ongoing commitment to working hand-in-hand with the people of Solomon Islands to build “brighter futures” across the country.
The announcement was made during the Solomon Islands Australia Community Partnership Awards Night, held on Wednesday at the Mendana Hotel in Honiara.
Speaking to a room filled with project recipients, community leaders, and officials, Mr. Hilton commended the vision and dedication shown by the recipients.
“You are the architects of a better tomorrow for your communities,” he said. “I look forward to seeing the positive impact your projects will have and the dedication from health workers, teachers, and local businesses in carrying them out.”
The projects, funded through Australian support, are spread across all provinces and constituencies in the country. According to Mr. Hilton, this wide coverage is thanks to close cooperation with 33 members of the Solomon Islands Parliament.
“This collaboration has helped us maximise the impact of these initiatives,” he noted. “Your commitment and leadership in your communities have made this possible.”
Mr. Hilton highlighted Australia’s strong belief in “locally led development,” where communities take ownership of their projects—from planning to completion.
“These are your projects. They are designed by you, and they are for you,” he emphasized. “This approach ensures that communities feel proud of what they build together.”
The projects are also contributing directly to the Solomon Islands economy, with an estimated $11 million Solomon dollars flowing into local businesses and employment. Mr. Hilton confirmed that Australian-funded projects continue to prioritise using Solomon Islands suppliers to create more local jobs and deliver lasting benefits.
“We are proud to work with Solomon Islands businesses to deliver these projects. Every job created means more support for families and stronger communities,” he said.
