Police mount checkpoints to check for looted goods in Honiara.

AFTER three days of violence and destructive lawlessness, Royal Solomon Islands Police Force and Regional police counterparts have directed their attention to recovering looted goods and arresting the looters.

The thousands of dollars worth of goods were looted from businesses during last week’s violent unrest.

Royal Solomon Island Police Force (RSIPF) Commissioner Mostyn Mangau said the items are now in the safe hand of police.

Commissioner Mangau said that Police have dealt with the things, recorded the items properly, and stored them at the Honiara City Police storage.

He cautioned that Police also set up checkpoints in the city as an investigation into looting is continuing to check for looted items.

“If you want to travel to the Provinces with any goods do ensure to provide legal receipts having stamps/ seals from where you purchased the things.

“At this point of time police is continuing with their investigation searching for those who were involved in the looting and the riot,” he warned.

The Commissioner said that people wanting to travel with any goods to the provinces provided that you have a receipt.

“This is because police are checking on goods stolen during the riots.

“I also call on our communities to call police on 999 or 27893 or 23666 to report anyone in possession of the stolen good during the riot.”

He said that Police have made arrests and recovered stolen items over the past days.

“So investigations are progressing very well.

“There are more to come as police will continue to investigate and arrest those who are involved in this current riot.”
