THE Vice Chairman of the North Ulawa Ward Development Committee (NUWDC) on Ulawa Island in the Makira Ulawa Province is calling on the reelected Member of Parliament for Ulawa Ugi constituency, Hon. Willie Bradford Marau, and his office to support the four Ward Development Committees in his constituency.

Making the call, North Ulawa WDC Vice Chairman, Mr. Hillary Poe, emphasized that it is important that the constituency office support the four Ward Development Committees in their constituency since Ward Development Committees only operate on Ward Development Grants (WDG), which is not sufficient enough to implement most of the communities prioritized “felt needs” that each community identifies.

“I want to call on our Member of Parliament to support the four WDCs in the Ulawa Ugi Constituency as the grants we are operating on, which is the Ward Development Grant received from the provincial administration, are small,”  Mr. Poe says.

“It is important that we work together to implement the community “felt needs” projects that they prioritize so that we can help improve and develop our communities,”  he adds.

Mr. Poe says that at the moment, his committee is now commencing the timber milling process for their second project, which is building a new permanent staff house for Aroaha primary school in their ward.

The Aroaha staff house project will help address the continuous repairs on locally built staff houses that parents and fee payers’ face and will provide better housing for teachers, as some resource owners too have raised concerns about the depletion of their natural resources, which should be reserved for building their homes and kitchens.
