SOLOMON Islands High Commissioner to Papua New Guinea, H.E William Soaki joined a high-level delegation from the Solomon Islands led by Minister of Communication and Aviation, Hon. Fredrick Kologeto on an official visit to Port Moresby,
The visit was aimed to enhance bilateral cooperation in the communications and aviation sectors between Solomon Islands and Papua New Guinea.
During the visit, Minister Kologeto paid courtesy calls on PNG’s Minister for Communication & Information Technology, Hon. Timothy Masiu, and Minister for State Enterprises, Hon. William Duma.
The delegation held productive discussions on strengthening partnerships in telecommunications and aviation, with visits to key industry stakeholders, including the Department of ICT, the National Information and Communications Technology Authority (NICTA), Kumul Consolidated Holdings (KCH), Huawei, and the National Broadcasting Corporation (NBC).
Further engagements were held with representatives from Vodafone, DataCo PNG, Telekom PNG, the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA), PNG Airport Accident Investigation, NiuSky Pacific, and the PNG National Statistical Office (NSO), highlighting potential areas of collaboration.
A proposed Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the Solomon Islands Ministry of Communications & Aviation (MCA) and the PNG Department of ICT is in progress and expected to be signed soon.
The Solomon Islands delegation included Chairman of PAC & MP for Central Honiara, Hon. Gordon Darcy Lilo, Permanent Secretary of MCA, Alwyn Danitofea, Director of Civil Aviation, Brian Halisanau, Telecommunications Commissioner Calvin Ziru, Moses Virivolomo from SI Tower Ltd, SatSol CEO Tony Ferris, and FC Semisi.
The delegation returned to Honiara on 7 October.
