GORDON Darcy Lilo highlighted the crucial role of the Central Honiara constituency in shaping the democratic landscape and economic future of the Solomon Islands during his recent national election campaign in Honiara.
The former Prime Minister from 2011–2014, Gordon Darcy Lilo, highlighted Central Honiara’s role as the country’’s democratic institution, hosting the three government arms, making it the epicenter of democracy in the Solomon Islands.
The Solomon Islands Party for Rural Advancement (SIPRA) President and Former Member of Parliament for Gizo/Kolombangara constituency Lilo praised the importance of Central Honiara as the capital city of the Solomon Islands, where key government institutions are located.
“The very heart of our democracy, the very pillar of democracy, is hosted in Central Honiara,” Lilo said, stressing the responsibility of its constituents in steering the country towards prosperity. “I urge voters to elect candidates committed to economic development. The idea of taking stewardship must start off in this constituency, Central Honiara.”
Gordon Darcy Lilo holds a B.A. degree in economics and a postgraduate diploma from the University of Papua New Guinea. He later earned a Masters degree in economics from the Australian National University. He was elected to the National Parliament in 2001 and served as Minister for Finance in four successive governments. He was elected Prime Minister from November 16 to September 8, 2014, according to the Solomon Islands Historical Encyclopedia.
Lilo reiterated that Central Honiara belongs to all Solomon Islanders and stressed the need for stewardship and care for the country’s future.
“No one will lay claim over this place, and it belongs to the whole nation, serving as a home for every Solomon Islander,” the Central Honiara constituency candidate said.
