THE former Deputy Premier and Minister of Lands and Housing for the outgoing Makira/Ulawa Provincial Government will also be contesting for the Ulawa Ugi Parliament seat next month.

Davis Maemae, who is the former Member of Provincial Assembly (MPA) for North Ulawa Ward (ward one) and the former deputy premier of the Makira Ulawa provincial government, will be running under the Kadere Party for the Ulawa/Ugi constituency parliament seat.

Mr. Maemae first came into the political arena at the provincial level in 2015 after winning the assembly seat for North Ulawa Ward in the Makira/Ulawa Provincial Elections, and again in 2019 for his second term at the provincial level.

During his first term, from 2016 to 2019, Mr. Maemae was just an ordinary MPA. However, after making his comeback in the 2019 provincial elections, he was then appointed to be a member of the executive government as the Minister of Works, Communications, and Transport after the Julian Makaa-led government came into power.

In 2022, Mr. Davis Maemae was appointed as the deputy premier, replacing the former MPA for Ward 2, Mr. Joe Takeli, who was sacked by the Premier two years after forming the government, and he held the position until the dissolution of the Makira/Ulawa Provincial Assembly by the end of last year.

Mr. Davis will officially kick off his campaigns on Ulawa Island on the 29th of this month as he prepares for the elections next month.

A total of nine candidates will be contesting for the Ulawa/Ugi parliament seat in the next month’s synchronized elections.
