THE governments of Papua New Guinea and the Solomon Islands have initialled the draft of the bilateral agreement on the deployment of PNG Security Force personnel to the Solomon Islands on Monday 28th of March 2022 which took place at the Foreign Affairs Office in Honiara.

The text of the agreement is expected to be signed by both the Foreign Ministers of the two countries to ensure that the existing security cooperation between the two countries is legally binding and entails an operational framework.

In accordance with the 1988 Melanesian Independent state cooperation, the principal agreement to further continue broaden Papua New Guinea Constabulary and PNG Security agencies in the deployment mission to Solomon Islands.

Representing the two countries, were the Permanent Secretary for the department of foreign affairs and External trade, Mr Collin Beck and the PNG High Commissioner to Solomon Islands, His Excellency Mr Moses Kaul who initialled the arrangement according to an interlocutory legitimate statues pending the ministerial endorsement.

Under the presence of Foreign Affairs Assistant Secretary to the Pacific Mrs Janice Kemakeza, together with Third Secretary to the ‘PNG High Commissioner, Ms Bandy Charlie and other Foreign Affairs Official in witness.

According to the representatives of both countries, the agreement was expected to be concluded at the earliest possible opportunity.
