The Solomon Islands Ports Authority has held its 70th Anniversary Summit 2026 at the Aquatic Centre in East Honiara.
Speaking at the event, Deputy Prime Minister Francis Sade said the day is important because it recognises and honours the contribution of past leaders, board members, management teams, employees, customers, and stakeholders who have supported the organisation over many decades.
He said their dedication, vision, and service have built a strong foundation for Solomon Ports today.
“We commend Solomon Ports for its long-standing commitment to facilitating trade, supporting economic growth, and connecting the Solomon Islands to regional and international markets,” he said.
He said ports are not only physical infrastructure but also important gateways for trade and development.
He said in Solomon Islands, ports play a vital role in moving essential goods, fuel, food, and building materials that support daily life and the economy.
“Solomon Ports is therefore not only a service provider, but also a key contributor to national revenue and economic activity,” he said.
He added its impact is seen across fisheries, agriculture, forestry, mining, tourism, manufacturing, and retail sectors.
He thanked staff for their service and commitment to keeping operations running smoothly.
“I wish to extend our sincere appreciation. Your professionalism, dedication, and commitment to service have kept our ports operating and our economy moving,” he said.
He encouraged modernization and better planning for the future.
“I encourage Solomon Ports to continue evolving as a modern, efficient, and customer-focused port authority,” he said.
The event reflected on the achievements of the past 70 years and looked forward to strengthening port services for the future of Solomon Islands.
