PRISON Fellowship Solomon Islands (PFSI) on 22 November 2024 gave hundreds of Inmates children a gift, the gospel, and a personal message of love on behalf of their incarcerated parent who spend their time in Rove Central Correctional Centre.
Deputy Commissioner Administration Mr. Chris Bwekulyi said, the Correctional Service of Solomon Island has collaborated to meet human needs for many years, and we are partnering to remind others to love beyond all else during difficult times, fostering hope and emotional through the Angel Tree program. And even recognizing that every child deserves to feel the joy and care while their parents in prison.
Deputy Commissioner also take this time to acknowledge the Prison Fellowship Solomon Islands for organising this program to bring together families, relatives and children of inmates to come together since they locked up in jail for many years.
He also thanked Prison Fellowship women for providing foods and drinks for the event
It is the only time inmates get to present gifts to their children, interact with each other and share meal together with their families.
Coordinator Prison Fellowship Mr. Gabriel Foliga Bate’e Jr. said, Angel Tree is a powerful programme that reaches inmates children with the love of Christ during this painful period of separation and also provides a valuable opportunity to connect with those children and their families this Christmas season.
Mr. Bate’e adds, children of inmates are often overlooked, forgotten, rejected, and scorned by society. Children should not be punished for their parents’ mistakes.
He revealed in his statement that Angel Tree provides the opportunity to demonstrate the tangible love and compassion of Jesus Christ to children and families in need, as it helps restore damaged child-parent relationships through the separation caused by imprisonment.
As a result of Angel Tree, these children experience joy not just from the gifts, but from knowing their mother or father has not forgotten them.
During the celebration Child Evangelism Fellowship Coordinator Mrs Vivian Dola Kwaimasi reiterated that Jesus loves them and cares for them.
She told the children that even though they miss their fathers, Jesus still there for them to overcome challenges, circumstances and difficulties of life faced during the period of time without the presence of their father.
Director Programs and Rehabilitation Inspector Jimmy Aega acknowledge and thanked the Prison Fellowship Solomon Islands coordinator Mr. Jr. Bate’e and his team for their unwavering support to provide gifts for the children and also preparing foods and drinks for the event.
