The Solomon Islands Australia Alumni Association (SIAAA) has lit up Honiara with its Annual Gala 2025, celebrating the achievements of alumni and reaffirming the powerful role they play in shaping Solomon Islands’ future.

The event brought together alumni, government leaders, business executives, and representatives from the Australian High Commission.

Permanent Secretary for Education, Dr Franco Rodie, who is himself an Australian alumnus, represented the Solomon Islands Government at the event and praised alumni for driving innovation and national development:

“Our role as alumni is not symbolic. It is practical, active, and deeply impactful,” said Dr Rodie.

“We are expected to lead, to innovate, and to strengthen the people-to-people links that define the Solomon Islands–Australia partnership.”

Australian Deputy High Commissioner, Mr Andrew Schloeffel, commended SIAAA’s leadership during his remarks to the gathering.

“SIAAA is more than an association—it is a powerful platform for collaboration and dialogue, including on some of the most critical development challenges facing Solomon Islands,” said Mr Schloeffel.

Mr Schloeffel also reaffirmed Australia’s commitment to SIAAA’s five-year strategy, encouraging alumni to continue shaping national conversations and building a more inclusive and prosperous Solomon Islands.

“Australia is proud to invest in the professional growth of Solomon Islands’ best and brightest,” he said. “Alumni are the living proof of our shared vision for human development and stronger communities.”

SIAAA President Gladys Bartlett described alumni as “ambassadors of excellence,” highlighting their leadership in workplaces and communities across the country. She noted the gala was an opportunity to celebrate achievements, strengthen networks, and build confidence in the association’s long-term impact.

Since its establishment, SIAAA has grown to over 700 members nationwide, connecting returned scholars and promoting lifelong learning. Through strategic partnerships and leadership programs, the association continues to empower alumni to drive change in education, health, governance, and business.

The evening featured vibrant cultural performances by the Kirio Dancers and a special appearance by superstar Jaro Local, reflecting the spirit of connection and celebration that defines the alumni community.
