The new Kulabule Jetty has officially opened, marking another important infrastructure milestone for the Solomon Islands Ports Authority (SIPA) as it continues to strengthen domestic port services and support national development.

Speaking at the opening on 17, October, the Solomon Islands Ports Authority (SIPA) Chairman, Moses Virivolomo welcomed guests and acknowledged the 70-year journey of SIPA since its establishment in 1956. He highlighted the important role SIPA, government, and development partners have played in building and improving the country’s port infrastructure over the years.

He said SIPA has grown in capacity and resilience, improving efficiency through better systems and maintaining its commitment to safe, reliable, and year-round port operations. This work supports national transport goals and helps improve connectivity across the Solomon Islands.

The Chairman said the Kulabule Jetty is part of SIPA’s ongoing investment in infrastructure renewal and climate-resilient development. The project, valued at about SBD 28 million, was delivered using SIPA’s own resources and built by its engineering team with local support.

The 50m by 14m jetty will improve safety and efficiency for passengers and cargo handling, making domestic shipping easier and more reliable.

Looking ahead, SIPA plans to continue upgrading ports in Honiara and Noro, including new jetties, ramps, and other infrastructure under its long-term Port Master Plan.

The Chairman said the opening is not just about a new structure, but about improving services for the people and supporting trade, growth, and better connections across the country.
