The Correctional Service of Solomon Islands (CSSI) has reached another significant milestone with the official handing over of the newly constructed CSSI Naha Barracks, held on 10 October 2025 at Naha 4, East Honiara.
The ceremony was officiated by the Honourable Minister for Police, National Security and Correctional Services, Hon. Jimson Tanangada, who served as the Guest of Honour. The event was also attended by the Commissioner of CSSI, senior officials from the Ministry, the Managing Director of JED Enterprise, members of the CSSI Executive, and invited guests.
In his keynote address, Hon. Tanangada commended the successful completion of the project, describing it as a tangible demonstration of the Government’s commitment to strengthening national security infrastructure and supporting the welfare of correctional officers.


“This new barracks represents more than just a building — it symbolizes our collective commitment to improving the welfare of our correctional officers and strengthening our national security institutions,” Hon. Tanangada stated.
The Minister emphasized that well-supported officers perform their duties with pride, confidence, and professionalism, contributing directly to safer communities and a more stable Solomon Islands. He further reaffirmed the Government’s ongoing commitment to investing in both institutional and human capacity within the security sector, in alignment with the National Development Strategy 2016–2035.
“This project is a reflection of what can be achieved when government ministries, implementing agencies, and private contractors work together toward a shared national goal,” he added.
Managing Director of JED Enterprise, Mr. David Leong said, the project reflects a shared vision to enhance the living and working conditions of correctional officers.


“This project represents our collective commitment to improving the living and working standards of our correctional officers,” says Leong.
In his welcome remarks, Commissioner Mactus Forau expressed his appreciation to the Solomon Islands Government for its continued support through the Ministry of Police, National Security and Correctional Services and the Ministry of National Planning and Development Coordination. He also acknowledged the efforts of JED Enterprise and Infrastructure Team from the Ministry & CSSI for their dedication in ensuring the project’s successful completion.
“This new barracks provides a safe, secure, and modern living environment for our officers. It stands as a reflection of our collective commitment to enhancing officer welfare, professionalism, and morale — which are essential foundations for an effective and disciplined correctional service,” says Commissioner Forau.
Commissioner Forau further highlighted that the Naha Barracks project forms part of the Government’s wider Infrastructure Strengthening Programme, aimed at improving CSSI facilities across the country to enhance operational effectiveness and staff wellbeing.
The ceremony concluded with the official handover of the facility to CSSI, followed by a guided inspection of the new barracks. Guests also expressed their appreciation to all parties involved in delivering the project, which stands as a proud achievement for CSSI and the Solomon Islands Government.
Hon. Tanangada encouraged CSSI officers who will be residing in the new barracks to take ownership of the facility and maintain it with care, emphasizing that such investments must be preserved for the long-term benefit of the Service and the nation.
The completion of the CSSI Naha Barracks demonstrates the Government’s enduring commitment to improving public sector infrastructure, supporting security institutions, and building a stronger and more resilient Solomon Islands.
