THREE communities in Aruligho have imposed a 24 hours Lockdown in the area.

The 24 hours Lockdown was organised by elders and chiefs of the three communities including Ghorabau, Duidui and Vatukulau.

Sunday Isles in an exclusive interview with a village elder at Ghorabau village, Maxwell Ham, said that the lockdown was organised because the captain of the vessel mentioned by the Prime Minister, Manasseh Sogavare during his nationwide address yesterday was attending a funeral at Duidui village in Aruligho upon his arrival from Ontong Java.

“The captain of the Vessel was attending a burial of a relative at Duidui village upon his arrival from Ontong Java,” Maxwell said.

He said that the 24 hour lockdown was imposed since 6 am this morning and will continue till 6 am tomorrow morning.

He also mentioned that people were not allowed to do any unnecessary movement during the lockdown period including domestic selling of food and betel nut at the road side, that will not allowed as well.

“The country’s COVID-19 protocols is very important during this time and who ever breaches the lockdown will be dealt with accordingly,” he said.

“Only selected elders who have already completed their vaccines doses are chosen to keep certain territories to watch people’s movement during the lockdown period,” Maxwell added.

The village elder, who is also in charge of looking after the current Ministry of Fisheries, Tilapia Development farm in at Aruligho, Northwest Guadalcanal also said that employees and constructors of the Fisheries development are not allowed to continue with their work since when the lockdown started early this morning.

“Work progress at the Fisheries site is also on halt. This was because some of the employees have attended the same funeral service which the Captain have also attended, so the work will be on halt until tomorrow 6am” he said.
