Catholic communities across the Solomon Islands have begun their annual Month of the Rosary observance, a long-standing tradition marked every October.

The Month of the Rosary continues throughout October, drawing families and neighbors together in spiritual reflection and unity.

On Wednesday, 1st October 2025, Catholic families and parishioners gathered to commence the month-long celebration with prayer, singing, and reflection, centered around the recitation of the Rosary. The Takwaisae community in West Kwaio, Malaita province is among many across the country actively participating in this spiritual event.

Two couples have prepared their homes to receive and welcome Mary, likely referring to a religious statue or image of the Virgin Mary as part of a Catholic or Christian tradition.

October is traditionally recognized by the Catholic Church as the Month of the Rosary, honoring the Virgin Mary and her role in the faith. In rural communities, families host the Rosary prayer sessions in their homes, promoting unity, devotion, and the sharing of God’s word.

Throughout the month, communities come together in nightly prayers, singing hymns dedicated to Mary, and reflecting on the Mysteries of the Rosary. A motorcade also marked the beginning of the observance in some areas, symbolizing the journey of faith and communal devotion.

During the opening event, a local catechist highlighted the importance of Mary’s role in the Church and encouraged deeper commitment to prayer, especially the Rosary, as a means of strengthening both personal faith and community bonds.
