THE PNG/Solomon Islands Association presented a timely donation of $2,000 to support the family of 3-year-old Xavier Bele who is battling cancer earlier last week.

The donation took place at the Children’s Ward, National Referral Hospital in Honiara, just in time for the departure of Xavier Bele, who left the country yesterday (Sunday) to seek medical treatment in Manila, Philippines.

Xavier, 3, who hails from Guadalcanal province and Kiribati was diagnosed with blood cancer earlier this year and the support will go towards his treatment in Manila.

Jorddy Tununto, Vice President for PNG/SI Association said if we can help Xavier in a little way to show how much we care that is the most valuable thing we can do.

“We come with our support not because we want to visit Xavier but on behalf of the Association, we want to show our support and love to this very special child.

“We are not a money-making business, Two thousand dollars is just a small amount of money, but for sure it comes from our heart. We give as a portion of our involvement towards Xavier’s life,” Mr. Tunnto said.

Xavier’s mum, Samantha Bele, said Xavier is a very animated healthy kid, he had never been very sick before, except for the normal flu.

“We were never admitted to the Hospital, however early this year Xavier’s health changed, he experienced continuous high fevers, joint pains, and bleeding gums.

“We went for several check-ups, until June we find out with the doctor’s result that he is positive with blood cancer, Acute Leukemia,” Samantha said.

She added that: “Xavier’s doctors have told her and Xavier’s father that Xavier had a high chance of recovering from this cancer if Chemotherapy treatment started soon as soon as possible because the Cancer in his body was spreading faster by day.

“However it is now confirmed that his body is resisting the Chemotherapy and so will need Bone Marrow Transfusion for his treatment which can only be done overseas and is a costly process.

“Since then, they started doing fundraising to raise money for the cause.

“All the money raised goes to Xavier’s family to help alleviate his medical cost,” she said.

Samantha acknowledged the PNG/SI Association and every individual who have supported them with funds to support the treatment of her son.

“Francis Bele (Xavier’s dad) and I want to thank the PNG/SI Community, One More Shots team, our families, relatives, and friends for their donations and assistance on medical back up to our son Xavier.

“And also big thanks to the Pilipino Community here in Honiara for their support at the very beginning. They are the first people to initiate fundraising for Xavier, and our heart goes out to them.”
