Japan’s State Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mr HORII Iwao, completed a successful two‑day official visit to Solomon Islands from 28–29 June 2026, reinforcing the long‑standing partnership between the two nations.

On the first day of his visit, Mr HORII paid solemn respects at the Solomon Peace Memorial Park, laying a wreath in honour of those who lost their lives during the Second World War. The gesture underscored Japan’s ongoing commitment to peace, reconciliation, and shared historical understanding.

The second day featured a series of high‑level engagements. Mr HORII paid courtesy calls on Prime Minister Hon. Matthew Wale and Minister of National Planning and Development Coordination Hon. Peter Kenilorea Jr., where discussions centred on development cooperation, infrastructure support, and strengthening bilateral ties.

A major highlight of the visit was Mr HORII’s participation in two signing ceremonies for the Exchange of Notes for Grant Aid projects, signalling Japan’s continued investment in Solomon Islands’ development priorities. These projects are expected to support key sectors and enhance long‑term national resilience.
Mr HORII also joined a gathering with Japanese residents and JOCV volunteers, acknowledging their contributions to community development and reaffirming Japan’s commitment to people‑to‑people connections in Solomon Islands.

The visit further solidifies Japan’s role as a trusted development partner and reflects the shared commitment to peace, cooperation, and sustainable progress.
