Prime Minister Hon. Matthew Cooper Wale, has reaffirmed his government’s commitment to reform, accountability, and servant leadership, saying that building a stronger Solomon Islands requires the collective efforts of both government and its citizens.

Speaking during the nation’s 48th Independence Anniversary celebrations, Prime Minister Wale reflected on the message he delivered when he was elected Prime Minister: “Change is coming.”
He said the statement was never intended to create uncertainty but to inspire hope and restore public confidence in government.
According to the Prime Minister, the promise of change is about rebuilding trust in public institutions, strengthening integrity in public life, and ensuring that future generations inherit a stronger nation.
Wale also recalled another message from his inaugural address that continues to guide his leadership, “We are not your lords. We are your servants.”

He said these words reflect his belief that leadership is not about power or privilege but about stewardship and service to the people. He added that public office is a trust that must be honoured with responsibility, accountability, and integrity.
Referring to the national motto, “To Lead is to Serve,” the Prime Minister said the principle applies not only to political leaders but to everyone entrusted with responsibility. He acknowledged the important role played by chiefs, church leaders, teachers, nurses, police officers, judges, and public servants, saying leadership begins wherever people serve their communities.

PM Wale also outlined the guiding philosophy of his government: Reform, Empowerment, Accountability and Transformation (GREAT), describing these as national responsibilities rather than political slogans.
Prime Minister Wale concluded by reminding Solomon Islanders that nation-building is a shared responsibility that extends beyond any government or political party.
He said while the Government for Reform, Empowerment, Accountability and Transformation have a mandate to govern, the ultimate goal is a greater Solomon Islands—one that is more just, united, prosperous, compassionate, and accountable.
The Prime Minster expressed hope that every child, regardless of where they live in the country, will grow up with confidence in the nation’s future and believe that tomorrow will be better than today
