CONSTRUCTION of the Su’u Harbour Bridge in West Kwaio, Malaita province has taken a significant step forward following the successful installation of two key deck panels last week.

This progress marks a major milestone in the broader infrastructure development efforts under the Second Solomon Islands Roads and Aviation Project (SIRAP2). The bridge forms a crucial part of efforts to strengthen transport resilience in the province, reflecting the government’s continued investment in nation-building infrastructure.

The contractor, China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC), promptly commenced installation upon the arrival of the bridge components on site. The swift execution underscores the project’s momentum and commitment to timely delivery.

SIRAP2 is a World Bank-funded initiative implemented by the Ministry of Infrastructure Development (MID), aimed at improving essential transport infrastructure across the Solomon Islands.

With the deck panels now in place, the next phase of work will focus on:

  • Aligning and securing the deck structures,
  • Completing the abutment connections,
  • Conducting detailed quality inspections, and
  • Preparing for concrete works and final surfacing.

Once completed, the new Su’u Harbour Bridge is expected to enhance safe and reliable access for surrounding communities, improve connectivity within Malaita Province, and support both economic activity and social development.
