THE COVID-19 Oversight Committee are currently looking into a repatriation flight for graduated Solomon Islands students in fiji and those who are going to complete their studies there.

Speaking from Fiji today at the forthnight COVID Radio Talk Back Show, Press Secretary to the Prime Minister, Dr. Jimmy Rodgers revealed that final dates for the flights are being discussed with the national carrier, Solomon Airlines and once set, it will have to go through the Cabinet for deliberations.

“Currently, the cabinet’s decision is still on the suspension of all incoming flights except for special exemptions which are allowed into the country under strict conditions,” Dr. Rodgers said.

He further added that at the moment, the oversight Committee will look into logistics and potential dates for the repatriation flights and once that is done, will seek cabinets approval to bring the students back into the country.

“There are alot of important things that needs to be done before bringing the students back into the country.

“The technical working group will look at the risk profile of Fiji, what is Fiji’s pre-departure requirements and SI quarantine requirements,” Dr. Rodgers outlined.

He however pointed out, one thing that is fairly certain is that whoever boarded the flight will be fully vaccinated or they will have had their last dose of vaccine atleast 4 weeks before the flights.

Meanwhile, according to Under Secretary to the Ministry of Education, James Bosamata, the COVID oversight committee will also be looking into other repatriation flight for the remaining SI students and nationals in the philippines.
