PRIME Minister Manasseh Sogavare announced today (28 June) the reopening of international borders including the lifting of the institutional quarantine requirement starting on July 1.

The decision to fully re-open borders for international travel and trade was made by Cabinet early this week based on an assessment by health authorities following the significant improvement in the COVID-19 situation in the country.

This means that from 1 July 2022, all international arrivals to the Solomon Islands will no longer undergo institutional quarantine. Travelers can proceed directly from the airport after clearing normal arrival formalities to their booked accommodations in hotels or their homes.

“Today I am elated as your Prime Minister to inform you all, that based on the assessment from our health team that the COVID-19 situation in the country had improved markedly over the past several weeks, and Cabinet has decided that our international borders will re-open fully from 1 July 2022 onwards,” Sogavare said.

International travelers going directly to their homes are encouraged to wear face masks in the first few days at home as a preventative measure.

As part of the border reopening process from 1st July 2022, all international travelers to the Solomon Islands no longer need to apply for a special exemption to enter the country. All travelers can book directly with airline companies to enter the country.

The only remaining requirements that international travelers are required to do is to provide one negative COVID-19 PCR test within 72 hours of arrival in Honiara and must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 [except for children that cannot be vaccinated].

Any traveler that does not comply with these two requirements will not be able to travel to the Solomon Islands.
