U.S. Navy Seabees with the 17th Pacific Partnership 2022 mission in the Solomon Islands, alongside local volunteers, have started full renovation work within the Rove’s Children Park playground in West Honiara.
U.S. Navy Pacific Partnership, Lieutenant Junior Grade, Charles Pitchford told local journalists that the renovation work to rebuild the existing park fence at Rove’s Children’s Park, and the playground will remain closed during this time until its reopening on September 9.
“We have plans to rebuild and repaint outside and refurbish the playground equipment as well as provide newly built playground equipment here.
“Right now, we have 23 Seabees from the US Navy on (ACB-1), who are helping out with their awesome hard workers.
“Seabees love to work, and they love work and build things in the community here, we also have some local volunteer workers that are awesome helping out and bringing out that awesome energy and that sense of community that will love to see.
“So it’s been great working with everybody out here and having that shared volunteers – so outside of the Seabees as well we have volunteers from the ship – medical folks and anybody that wants to help out and build and take care of things.
“We will be working here until the 8th and on the 9th we are going to have a ribbon cutting ceremony to reopen the park at 10:30 am,” Lt.j.g. Charles Pitchford said.
